About Nothing Special
Nothing Special is a Brooklyn-based beverage company making the fresh kava experience, a healthier and non-addictive alternative to alcohol, available to everyone. After 3.5+ years of stealth R+D and original media creation, working hard to perfect our product, we’ll be launching the first tasty and efficacious fresh kava beverages outside of the Pacific Islands in early 2023. Kava is a plant-based beverage from the Pacific Islands that has been consumed socially, culturally, and ceremonially by millions of people for 3,000+ years. About the role
We are looking for a maker and beverage-enthusiast who is passionate about building brands from the ground up. As the Head of Marketing & Communications, you will be responsible for developing the Nothing Special brand and determining how the brand shows up in the world. As part of this role, you will be in charge of leading integrated marketing campaigns, inclusive of PR, social, digital, influencer, sampling, and paid media. You will ensure Nothing Special’s brand identity remains consistent across all touchpoints - from website to packaging. As part of the founding team, you will be an integral part of the team, bringing the story of Nothing Special to light and deeply engaging with our consumer base. The role is based in Brooklyn, New York and reports directly to the founder.
What you’ll do
You will lead Nothing Special’s interactions with our consumers and strive to delight them at every touchpoint - whether they are enjoying one of our beverages or are trying to learn more about kava. - Build and lead our Marketing and Communications team as we grow - Define the brand strategy and communication principles in partnership with our agency - Lead product marketing for the company, including definition of product naming, packaging, claims, and messaging - Manage integrated marketing campaigns for our launch and beyond - Lead our direct-to-consumer channel, overseeing design, launch, management, and evolution of this key sales channel - Oversee key partner agencies and vendor partners, including PR, marketing, creative and paid media partners - Evaluate and secure brand partnerships, creating new collaboration opportunities that enable the brand to drive awareness and affinity - Find creative and scalable ways to educate consumers about kava, ensuring the brand is both a source of information and thought leadership for the category
Who you are
You have a strong vision about how brands engage with consumers and are able to embed this into everything we do. You are looking to join the founding team of a small, early-stage start-up and to own the marketing function within our company. - You have 4-7+ years of work experience in consumer marketing (brand or product) brand, brand strategy, or brand management - preferably for timeless CPG brand(s) - You have worked with brands that sell online/DTC, in specialty retail, and through grocery channels. - You have led integrated marketing campaigns with the full spectrum of marketing and communication disciplines - You have top-notch writing skills that enable you to communicate effectively both in business and creative settings - You have experience managing multiple agencies, as well as other external partners (from freelancers to content creators) - You are equal parts creative and strategic - you’re just as excited about new packaging design as you are about the results of the latest consumer survey.
